You may already know this if you managed to catch him in The Divergent Series: Allegiant, Anna Karenina or Netflix's Hemlock Grove, but it turns out that Pennywise the Clown is actually pretty damn attractive.

And that's one sentence that we thought we'd never write.

Yep, it turns out that in news we absolutely shouldn't be shocked by, there's an actor underneath all that terrifying clown make-up – and Bill Skarsgård certainly cleans up pretty well.

We already knew the 26-year-old actor had good genes, being the younger brother of Big Little Lies and True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård and all, but we've got used to seeing him covered in white clown make-up, so this new Dazed cover profile is a welcome reminder that there's a man beneath the costume.

Of course, just because we've been reminded that Bill Skarsgård is an actual (hot) person, that doesn't mean that Pennywise is going to be any less terrifying going into It – and it seems Bill made the most of that during filming.

"There's this sense of enjoyment that this entity has while he is a clown – he's getting off on it," Bill told Dazed. "I wanted to create something that is very unsettling in terms of its unpredictability."

Well, going by the first look we've had at the movie, we'd say he's achieved it.

"I had people coming up to me all the time being like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe you're doing It! That movie just traumatised me'," he added of accepting the role of Pennywise.

And, yes, we should probably expect the remake to traumatise us all over again.

After all, you don't get an R-rating in the US for "violence/horror, bloody images, and for language" for nothing.

Bill has already opened up about making kids cry while in full make-up during filming.

"I come out as Pennywise, and these kids – young, normal kids – I saw the reaction that they had. Some of them were really intrigued, but some couldn't look at me, and some were shaking," he explained.

"So some of these kids got terrified and started to cry in the middle of the take, and then I realised, 'Holy shit. What am I doing? What is this? This is horrible'."

Eesh. Best end this article with one more photo of Bill looking not-at-all-like Pennywise, just to remind us that it's not real.
