Warner Bros is definitely moving full speed ahead on the DC Extended Universe, with eight films coming over the next few years.
Confirmation that Gal Gadot will unleash the Lasso of Truth once again in Wonder Woman 2 was met with particularly rapturous applause inside Hall H at Comic-Con International on Saturday (July 22).
The full upcoming DCEU slate also includes the expansion of the Bat Family with director Matt Reeves's The Batman and Joss Whedon's Batgirl, along with a Suicide Squad sequel.
Warner Bros also announced during its 90-minute Comic-Con session that the studio is at work on The Flash, Shazam, Green Lantern Corps and the long-delayed Justice League Dark.
It's interesting to note that Justice League Dark is being billed under that title once again, presumably since Warner's alternate choice Dark Universe has been swiped by Universal for its monster monster franchise.
We're still waiting on release dates for these projects, but it's safe to assume two of them will snap up the pair of 2020 dates claimed by Warner Bros earlier in the week. Shazam is expected to be the first to go before the cameras.
What to Read Next
Of the eight movies announced at Comic-Con, Wonder Woman 2 seems to be the project we know most about at this early stage. Director Patty Jenkins has made it very clear that she's keen to return for a story that would move from the First World War to the Cold War.
The lively presentation on Saturday also included a strong indication that Ben Affleck will be sticking around for The Batman as originally planned, despite reports on Friday that Warner Bros was exploring options to phase him out of the franchise.
"I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest part in any universe, Marvel DC, anything – I'm so thrilled to do it. Its f**king amazing. I still can't believe it," Affleck assured fans.
"Everyone at the studio tells me I'm their Batman and I believe it. And Matt Reeves? I'd be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves. I'm blown away and its an exciting time in the DC Universe. I'm excited to be Batman."
Next up for the DCEU will be Justice League, which opens worldwide on November 17. Watch the film's Comic-Con trailer below:
