In a move that will surprise no-one, The Conjuring 3 has been confirmed by New Line Cinema.
However, it looks like James Wan won't be directing the third movie in the hugely popular franchise, but will be on board as a producer through his Atomic Monster production company.
Deadline reports that the horror threequel will be written by David Leslie Johnson, the co-writer of The Conjuring 2 as well as Orphan and the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. Johnson has also recently worked with Wan on a rewrite of Aquaman.
The first two Conjuring movies have grossed almost $640 million worldwide, combined, with the original holding the record for the biggest opening weekend for a non-sequel horror.
We don't know yet what The Conjuring 3 will be about, but like the previous two outings, it will be based on the real-life investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.
It will mark the seventh movie in the ever-expanding The Conjuring universe, following prequel Annabelle and its sequel Annabelle: Creation, and spin-offs The Nun and The Crooked Man.

Both spin-offs are based on characters who freaked us out in The Conjuring 2, with The Nun set to arrive first on July 13, 2018.
Before that, Annabelle: Creation – which is apparently quite good – creeps into cinemas on August 11.
