Wherever we leave them after Vol 2, the Guardians of the Galaxy will be very different in Avengers: Infinity War.
CinemaBlend has confirmed with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that Avengers: Infinity War will be taking place four years after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, but that's more to do with the timeframe of the upcoming sequel.
The original Guardians outing was set in 2014, with the sequel taking place two months later, meaning it all happens in the same year.
This will seemingly have an effect on where we find the Guardians in Infinity War as that movie takes place in 2018, after the likes of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.
"They will have evolved slightly, in some recognisable ways. But really they'll be the Guardians and dealing with the shit storm they have to deal with," Feige teased.
Of course, Guardians of the Galaxy is somewhat unique in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as most movies haven't got a specific timeframe, it's just that Guardians started with a prologue set in 1988.
What to Read Next
"Knowing that outside of the Guardians franchise, we don't necessarily always date the movies. You don't always know, we don't say, '2012, 2013…'. We do in the Guardians because you do the math and 1988, and it's 26 years later," Feige explained.
"But we never say, 'Oh, this takes place in 2018, this takes place in 2017'. But it was important for the story that James [Gunn] wanted to tell that they're still relatively fresh in their new group."
We're glad that's been cleared up, but if you're still confused, here's how to watch the entire MCU in the right order. You're welcome.
The Guardians of the Galaxy have already had an impact on Avengers: Infinity War after Gamora herself, AKA Zoe Saldana, seemingly let slip the super-secretive title for the Infinity War follow-up.
However, Gunn was quick to say that she hadn't spilled the beans and "mis-spoke".
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is out on April 28 in the UK and May 5 in the US. Avengers: Infinity War arrives in UK cinemas on April 27, 2018 and US cinemas on May 4, 2018.
