Avengers: Infinity War is all about the giant purple villain Thanos, who has been teased by Marvel as far back as 2012's Avengers.
The film will see him putting those powerful McGuffins, the Infinity Stones, to use, but his motivations have been a mystery so far.
However, comments by co-writer Stephen McFeely on the Doctor Strange Blu-ray special features have shed some light on the goals of Josh Brolin's bad guy.
"His goal is to rebalance the universe as he sees it," he said (via Screen Rant).
"So when he figures out that the Infinity Stones could do this for him at the snap of a finger, that becomes his main goal."
But how exactly will he bring about that "rebalance"? Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo have been posting pictures from the film's set, including an image of a well-annotated copy of the classic Thanos story Infinity Gauntlet.

The comic sees Thanos gather the Infinity Stones (sounding familiar?) into a gauntlet that can control reality. One of his first acts is to wipe out half of the population of the universe to please his would-be girlfriend, the personification of Death.
Could the 'rebalancing' involve Thanos reducing the amount of life in the universe? McFeely doesn't mention Death in the commentary, but that would be a big giveaway, wouldn't it?
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently acknowledged that the MCU has struggled with its villains in the past, and will be tackling that by making Thanos "the main character" of Infinity War.
Brolin will be joined by a huge cast including Robert Downey Jr, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Karen Gillan and many, many more.
Avengers: Infinity War will be released in the UK on April 27, 2018 and in the US on May 4, 2018.
