Much like John Hurt's character Kane in Alien, Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 is probably dead, although it's got absolutely nothing to do with a chestburster.
After a fan tweeted Blomkamp asking what the chances are of his Alien project happening, the director dashed all of our hopes and dreams, simply replying: "slim."
Blomkamp's Alien 5 was put on hold back in 2015, thanks to Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant from Ridley Scott.
"Well, we have a great script. Fox asked us to delay so Ridley Scott could shoot his [second] Prometheus movie. That was too bad because we would have already done it by now," Sigourney Weaver explained.
"In any case, [the Aliens sequel] is there and waiting for us. He and I both have these other commitments that are finally upon us, and so we've got to switch gears and concentrate on that. But it will be worth the wait when we finally get to it."
On how long fans will have to wait to see Sigourney's character Ellen Ripley back in action, she previously said: "I hope it won't be a few [years]. I hope it'll be a couple. But we'll see."

Last summer, Sigourney also suggested Ripley would be given some kind of resolution in Alien 5, saying: "It's a great story and it's satisfying to me to give this woman an ending."
She should be so lucky.
