Jared Leto has lined up his first acting role after playing The Joker in Suicide Squad.
The famously selective actor, who won an Oscar for his part in Dallas Buyers Club, will star in crime-thriller The Outsider.
Directed by Martin Zandvliet (Land of Mine), The Outsider is set in post-World War II Japan.
The script, written by Andrew Baldwin (Bastille Day), tells the story of an imprisoned American soldier - played by Leto - who is released with the help of his Yakuza cellmate, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
Leto's character then attempts to earn the respect of the Yakuza and repay his debt while navigating the criminal underworld.
Waypoint Entertainment's Ken Kao and Linson Entertainment's John and Art Linson will produce the film, and shooting is planned for autumn.
