Last summer's San Andreas didn't make it onto a lot of critics' Top Ten lists, but it did make $473m worldwide on a budget of about $110m - so it was probably inevitable there would be talk of a San Andreas 2.

Better brace yourself, because the Earth is about to move again, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first film saw Johnson's helicopter rescue pilot searching out first his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) and then his daughter (Alexandra Daddario) in the chaos of a huge earthquake along the San Andreas fault in California.

Yes, in the middle of the biggest natural disaster in American history, someone employed as a rescue professional absconded with government property to take care of some family business. This guy is terrible at his job.

Anyway, plot details for the new film are thin on the ground, which is itself just a thin crust over the Earth's mantle. But this one is expected to be a larger-scale affair (epi)centred on the 'Ring Of Fire' around the Pacific where 90% of the world's earthquakes occur.

Does that mean that the title might not work anymore? Yes, so expect some sort of subtitle, and hopefully a Johnny Cash song.

The original film's director, Brad Peyton, is expected back, as are Gugino, Daddario and Paul Giamatti, who played a seismologist.

Where does this fit into the Rock's crowded schedule? That remains to be seen. He's currently recording a voice for Disney's Moana (with Hamilton composer Lin-Manuel Miranda), and gearing up for both Fast & Furious 8 and Baywatch, with Central Intelligence out soon and two sequels to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island announced but not yet scheduled.
