The Revenant hits UK cinemas today having just led the way in the 2016 Oscar nominations.
We caught up with its director, Mexican-born auteur Alejandro González Iñárritu, to hear about the film's intense camera style, the lessons he learned from Birdman that he applied to this follow-up and more.
"There were exhilarating moments where some of the scenes that were challenging happened, after so long planning and logistics and rehearsals and things going wrong," the filmmaker told us.
The movie, starring Leonardo Di Caprio, is up for 12 awards at February's Oscars, including Best Picture.
