Still quivering with nervous exhaustion at 2015's glut of massive movies? Still holding a torn cinema ticket in your damp hand, wondering where all the time went? Well brace yourself: 2016 is set to be the year of the even bigger mega-blockbuster.
From Batman v Superman to Star Wars: Rogue One and back again, the next 12 months will be chock-full of massively exciting big budget bonanzas. So much so, that we've been forced - forced - to compile the best of the best in one handy list so you can adjust your new diaries accordingly.
Otherwise, it's entirely possible you may run out of cash watching these by June. Still: Boom! Bang! Loud explosions!
1. DEADPOOL (February 12)
Director: Tim Miller
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano
What to Read Next
After being brutally mishandled - mis-stitched? - in the terrible X-Men: Origins Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds finally gets a second chance at playing the sweary, bloody, fourth wall-breaking "superhero" Deadpool in this X-spinoff. From the looks of the trailer (and our experience on set), this will be just as bonkers and adults-only as we'd hoped it would be.
2. ZOOLANDER 2 (February 12)
Director: Ben Stiller
Starring: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Penélope Cruz, Kristen Wiig
After the muted response to the similarly-delayed comedy sequel Anchorman 2, there was a sense of hesitation around Derek Zoolander's return - until we saw the trailer. And the posters. And the Paris-set snaps (see above). Stuffed full of triple-A talent, including cameos from Benedict Cumberbatch and Justin Bieber, this is suddenly the most exciting comedy in 2016.
3. BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (March 25)
Director: Zack Snyder
Starring: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne
Batman AND Superman - in the same film? It's finally happening, and there's no way you're not going to watch it. The trailer may have given away a little bit too much for some tastes, but with Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and many other Justice League heroes also in the movie, there's going to be something for everyone. Literally, everyone.
4. THE JUNGLE BOOK (April 15)
Director: Jon Favreau
Starring: Neel Sethi, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken (voices)
This is one of two Jungle Book adaptations set to hit cinemas in the near future - the other, directed by Andy Serkis, will arrive in 2017. This, the Disney one, is the CGI-live-action remake of the 1967 animated classic. But it won't feature any songs, so don't go expecting any use of the words "jungle VIP" or "king of the swingers". Do go expecting some jaw-dropping special effects and a very emotional journey (judging by the trailer, at any rate).
5. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (May 6)
Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Starring: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie
If you thought Batman v Superman was going to be the only superhero v superhero biff-up in 2016, think again, because Cap' and Ol' Shell Head are coming to blows in the aftermath of Age of Ultron. Feeling like a back-door Avengers sequel, this will feature most of your Marvel favourites, from Ant-Man to The Winter Soldier, with newcomers such as Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and the newer, younger, non-Sony Spider-Man (Tom Holland) also on board. If you're not already losing your mind over this one, check out the trailer pronto.
6. X-MEN APOCALYPSE (May 27)
Director: Bryan Singer
Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne
No, wait: turns out there are three super smash-ups coming out in 2016, with your favourite mutants hitting each other once again as friends become enemies and enemies become friends. Then there's the eponymous Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac, who's big, bad and blue-ish purple. As old as time, he's "the first mutant", possessing the power of controlling other mutants. Yikes. Then there's the '80s setting to look forward to, as well as new, younger takes on much-loved characters, with Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner playing Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan as your new Cyclops. And is that a bald James McAvoy we can see in the trailer?
7. FINDING DORY (June 17)
Director: Andrew Stanton
Starring: Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Hayden Rolence, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy
It's the sequel you never thought would happen, only it's actually happening. Pixar are going back into the ocean to see what Nemo, Marlin and Dory are up to. But this time with the emphasis heavily on - surprise, surprise! - the delightfully dotty Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) as she works out where she's from and who she is. The teaser trailer didn't give much away, but in Pixar we trust.
8. GHOSTBUSTERS (July 22)
Director: Paul Feig
Starring: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth
Controversial? Yes. Exciting? Definitely. Some Ghostbusters purists have railed against the mere idea of a reboot, with others angry that women are playing the proverbial busters of ghosts, but none of that matters - for a number of reasons. But specifically this one: we're finally getting another Ghostbusters film. Let that sink in for a moment. Ghostbusters II came out in 1989, which means it'll be a whole 25 years since our last official slice of ectoplasm. 25 years of hurt...
9. INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE (June 24)
Director: Roland Emmerich
Starring: Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe
Another long-delayed trip to the sequel well on our list, but no less exciting for the fact that the original Independence Day - in all its alien-punching, patriotic-speechifying glory - came out a whole 20 years ago. Sneaking a trailer out onto the web seemingly out of nowhere, it's surprised some enough to wonder whether this might be better than the original. Then again, if you've rewatched the 1996 "classic" recently, you might think another Howard The Duck movie might be better than the original Independence Day.
10. BOURNE 5 (July 16)
Director: Paul Greengrass
Starring: Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel
It's hard to get properly excited about a film if it doesn't even have a proper title yet, but when it's Matt Damon coming back to the Bourne fold, what's in a name? "Bourne 5" - as it's known - arrives after Jeremy Renner's failed Bourne Legacy spin-off, and with franchise stalwart Paul Greengrass back in the director's chair. Then there's the A-grade acting talent they've got on board, from Tommy Lee Jones to Vincent Cassel, not forgetting Julia Stiles from the original trilogy. Expect plenty of post-Snowden spy games across the globe, with shooting locations including Las Vegas and Greece.
11. STAR TREK BEYOND (July 22)
Director: Justin Lin
Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Idris Elba
Barely anything was known about the third film in JJ Abrams' reboot of the Star Trek franchise - now in the hands of Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin - until its first trailer teleported in out of nowhere. Now, close to barely anything is known about the film, with the teaser not giving much away. That said, there are some funky chalk-white aliens to look forward to, some Scotty slapstick and a bit of Bones 'n' Spock double-act fun. Plus, somewhere, Idris Elba. Most importantly though, the tone seems distinctly lighter than that of Into Darkness - something that should make a lot of Trek fans very happy indeed.
12. SUICIDE SQUAD (August 5)
Director: David Ayer
Starring: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne
The Joker is back, and Oscar-winning rock star Jared Leto is playing him. If that weren't enough to pique your interest, perhaps the live rat he gave to Margot Robbie as a present might (don't ask). Bringing together DC Comics' biggest, baddest villains, Suicide Squad sees everyone you love to hate working as a team to take down an even dastardlier foe. What's more, Will Smith plays the sharpshooting Deadshot in this one, and this is the role / movie he turned down Independence Day 2 to take - so that's how you know it's good.
13. DOCTOR STRANGE (November 4)
Director: Scott Derrickson
Starring: Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton
One of the, um, strangest heroes in Marvel's back catalogue, Doctor Strange has long been considered a "difficult" property to adapt. But with Insidious director Scott Derrickson holding the megaphone and Benedict Cumberbatch playing the sorcerer supreme, the MCU should be able to introduce the dark arts into their ever-expanding world. Perhaps the film's biggest sell so far - aside from Sherlock playing the lead - is the casting of Tilda Swinton as Dr Stephen Strange's mentor, The Ancient One. Swinton in a Marvel movie? It's official: anything can happen.
14. FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM (November 18)
Director: David Yates
Starring: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell
Harry Potter lives on! Kind of. Sorta. The wizarding world of JK Rowling will continue... in the past. This prequel tells the story of Newt Scamander, an eccentric, introverted British wizard stuck in a very awkward situation in1920s America. To say any more would give too much away, but know this: it involves fantastic beasts, and the efforts made to find them. Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne plays the lead, with one Mr Colin Farrell in a key role. So far, the most contentious thing about the movie is the reveal that US wizards call muggles "no-majs", which sounds ridiculous. Apparently.
15. ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY(December 16)
Director: Gareth Edwards
Starring: Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen
There are the Star Wars saga films - that's Episodes I-VII, by the way. Then there are the spin-off films, known as "Star Wars Stories", that tell tales from George Lucas's expanded sci-fi universe. The first of these is Rogue One, directed by Godzilla's Gareth Edwards and starring some very impressive names, including The Theory Of Everything's Felicity Jones and the martial arts legend Donnie Yen. The plot revolves around a group of misfit rebels, lead by Jones, attempting the impossible: stealing the plans of the Death Star from under The Empire's very nose. Will they succeed? We reckon they will, though we suspect many Bothans won't come out of this well.
16. ASSASSIN'S CREED (December 21)
Director: Justin Kurzel
Starring: Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson
The three big names from the critically-lauded Macbeth - that's director Justin Kurzel, plus stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard - reunite for a... video game adaptation? Bringing the high-brow to the traditionally low-brow, this dream team looks set to buck the perennial games-to-movies-are-bad trend by taking its source material seriously. In it, Fassbender will use his "genetic memories" to go back in time and relive his ancestor's past to find a key artefact - in so doing learning how to become an assassin in the present. In short: look forward to a lot of blood (and a lot of jumping into hay bales).
