Forget Captain America: Civil War. Forget Batman v Superman: The Longest Title Ever. The X-Men Apocalypse trailer is finally here.
What to Read Next
Fox's X-Men films have better villains than Marvel can muster, and this guy's name is in the title. No-one's going to forget him, unlike, say, Malekith the Accursed or Ronan (sorry guys).
So without any further ado, here's what we learned from our first look at Bryan Singer's newest X-Men outing:
1. Apocalypse got a small redesign
The internet was quick to point out that in the first pictures of Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse, he bore a surprising resemblance to preposterous Power Rangers villain Ivan Ooze. There were rumours that a redesign was being pushed through, however, and nerds the world over breathed a sigh of relief.
On closer inspection, the detailing on the costume looks largely unchanged, but it definitely seems less aggressively purple than before. The metallic silver/blue is a better colour for his skin tone, that's for sure.
2. Professor X still has hair... for the time being
Knowing what we do about the film's production, the first surprise for us was that James McAvoy's Professor Xavier is still rocking a full head of hair in the trailer (and how).
But stick around till the end and you'll see that his luscious locks' days are numbered.
3. Apocalypse has some kind of control over mutants
"He can control all of us," gasps McAvoy. Could it be that when Apocalypse says "you are all my children", he has some creepy connection to all the mutants out there?
We're expecting mind control rather than the power to send the X-Men to bed without their dinner, by the way.
4. Jennifer Lawrence is leading the X-Men
We've already heard that Mystique will be taking the lead in this movie (and with Jennifer Lawrence on contract, who else would you choose to front your movie?).
From the trailer, it looks like she'll be leading the X-Men into battle like Henry V, stirring speeches included.
5. The villains are bringing the fight home
Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen (Magneto, Psylocke, Archangel and Storm) seem to be invading Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, spotted in the halls as well as the high-tech catacombs.
There's evil, and then there's blowing up a school library evil. Not cool, dude.
6. Rose Byrne is back with all the exposition
Moira MacTaggert knows stuff. We last saw the CIA agent being mindwiped by Xavier at the end of X-Men: First Class, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know stuff.
Whether she remembers that iniquity or not, she's here to hit the X-Men with some serious Apocalypse exposition. Facts! Backstory! Plot stuff! It's a tough job, but we're glad Rose Byrne is here to do it.
7. Jean Grey saw it all coming
With her Vast Psionic Powers™ that can potentially do whatever the writer wants, founding X-Men member Jean Grey (played here by Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner) is a bit of a Mary Sue - or at least would be if she didn't have a propensity to go mad and/or die.
This new version apparently has prophetic dreams - and don't think we missed that repeated footage of death and destruction at either end of the trailer, Fox.
8. Apocalypse thinks he's God
Seeing that his stories usual revolve around attempts to exterminate mankind and conquer the world, it's no news that Apocalypse thinks highly of himself.
In the trailer he claims to be the inspiration for the ancient Egyptian sun god Ra, Hinduism's Krishna and the Biblical Yahweh. How modest.
9. The '80s are truly upon the X-Men
The most recent X-Men films have all been period pieces, and this film is channelling its 1983 settings straight through the cast's hair and wardrobe.
Rose Byrne is rocking a style that would never be found at any other time, and look at Havok/Lucas Till's hairdo. It's huge!
X-Men: Apocalypse will land in UK cinemas on May 19, 2016 in the UK and May 27 in the US.
