Ashton Kutcher's Steve Jobs biopic, Jobs, has beaten Michael Fassbender's Steve Jobs biopic, Steve Jobs, in the money game.
At first, it seems the opposite is true: Jobs earned $16.1 million in the US in 2013, while Steve Jobs is currently standing at $17.8 million in the US this year.
The thing is, the cheap 'n' cheerful Kutcher project only cost $12 million to make, while Fassbender's take - with Danny Boyle directing, Aaron Sorkin writing and Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen co-starring - cost $30 million.
This means that, on paper, Jobs has made more money than Steve Jobs. Things get a little more complicated when worldwide box offices are taken into account, but it still looks like Kutcher wins out on the profitability stakes.
Jobs made $19.8 million outside of America, bringing its total box office to $35.9 million. Steve Jobs, which is still to open in some territories, is currently at $24.8 million, which means a big ol' climb for Fassbender and company.
In short, if you were planning on making another movie about Steve Jobs any time soon, don't.
