Filmmaker Ava DuVernay has commented on Hollywood's latest whitewashing scandal.

Gods of Egypt director Alex Proyas and studio Lionsgate issued an apology earlier in the week following complaints over the lack of diversity in the Gerard Butler-fronted flick.

Selma director DuVernay took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the controversy, saying the acknowledgements of the problem by Proyas and Lionsgate were "an unusual occurrence worth noting".
