Moana 2 has been a massive box-office success, leading us to think it won't be the last we see of Moana and Maui.

We know there's already a live-action remake coming, but with a record-breaking opening, we could be seeing Moana 3 in the future too.

So you might be wondering whether Moana 2 has any credit scenes to enjoy, much like the first movie had a post-credit gag that poked fun at The Little Mermaid.

That's where we come in to help, with the definitive Moana 2 credit-scene guide with all you need to know, including how many post-credit scenes there are and what happens in them.

How many credit scenes does Moana 2 have?

We can confirm that Moana 2 has one credit scene to stick around for, which comes mid-credits.

There's nothing post-credits so once the credit scene is over, you can leave without missing anything else.

Moana 2 credit scene explained

After Moana and Maui manage to lift Nalo's curse and restore Motufetū to its rightful place, the credit scene cuts back to the god of storms – and he's not happy.

He's talking to Matangi, questioning how Moana could even get to the island. Matangi – given that she helped Moana get there – is understandably quiet, and assumes that Nalo will let her go.

"We're just getting started," Nalo warns Matangi, but before we find out what he means, Tamatoa – the treasure-loving crab from the first movie – pops up to offer his assistance as "she humiliated me as well".

Nalo doesn't seem too keen on Tamatoa's help, disintegrating Tamatoa's treasure-laden shell, so we assume that the god doesn't need his help.

Talking to Deadline, co-director Dana Ledoux Miller revealed that the credit scene was slightly different to the original plan.

"I think at a certain point it was a little darker, that mid-credits scene, than it ended up being. We realised, we don't want everyone leaving the theatres on a bummer," she explained.

"We have such fun characters, let's go out still having fun and wanting more. Plus, we were lucky enough to get Jemaine [Clement] back for a little cameo."

As for what happens next, well, maybe we'll see Nalo return with a vengeance in Moana 3 (if it happens).

Moana 2 is out now in cinemas.
