Reacher star Alan Ritchson will play the lead in upcoming romantic movie Counting Miracles, an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' book of the same name.

Ritchson will leave intense stunts and fighting scenes behind to play the role of a former Army Ranger who returns to his hometown to reconnect with the father he never knew. There, he encounters a doctor who's juggling her career and her single mum life, and a reclusive man who lives alone (via Variety).

Sparks published Counting Miracles in September this year, with the novel taking the top spot in the New York Times bestseller list as of October 2.
