George Clooney has shared his disappointment at new movie Wolfs' streaming release.

The actor has reunited with his Ocean's Eleven co-star Brad Pitt for the comedic crime thriller, which sees the two play criminal fixers forced to work together after discovering they've both been hired for the same job.

Clooney and Pitt both appeared at Venice Film Festival this week for Wolfs' world premiere.

During a press conference at the festival, Clooney called it a "bummer' that Apple changed its plans for a wider global theatrical release – with Wolfs now receiving a limited US cinematic release on September 20, before making its global debut on Apple TV+ a week later (September 27).

"Yes, we wanted it to be released, we've had some bumps along the way, that happens," he told reporters (per Deadline). "You know when I did Boys in the Boat, we did it for MGM and then it ended being for Amazon and we didn't get a foreign release at all which was a surprise.

"There are elements of this that we are figuring out," he continued. "It is a bummer, of course it's a bummer.

"On the other hand a lot of people are going to see the film and we are getting a release in a few hundred theatres, but, yeah, it would have been nicer to have a wide release."

In December 2023, it was announced that Sony had won global cinema distribution rights for the Apple Original Films movie. However, it was confirmed last month that Apple had pivoted to a global streaming release for Wolfs, with plans for only a limited cinema release.

August also saw Apple sign a deal with the film's director Jon Watts to write, direct and produce a sequel to Wolfs featuring the two leads.

At the time, the company said: "Releasing the movie to theaters before making it widely available to Apple TV+ customers brings the best of both worlds to audiences, and we're excited to see fans embrace the movie as we start working with Jon on the sequel."

In addition to Clooney and Pitt, Wolfs also stars Only Murders in the Building's Amy Ryan, The Walking Dead actor Austin Abrams and Poorna Jagannathan of Never Have I Ever fame.

Ryan and Abrams also attended Wolfs' world premiere in Venice – meanwhile, director Watts was forced to miss the event, with Clooney stating that the filmmaker had learned he'd "got Covid" and was resting.

Early reviews for the film have been mixed, but the movie received a four-minute standing ovation from audience members after the premiere screening.

Wolfs will be released globally on September 27, streaming on Apple TV+.
