My Notes on Mars tells the story of talented young scientist Margot Fogel (Lee), who is in a fraught marriage with Sam Fogel (Scott). During a hiking trip with her husband and friends, Margot goes inexplicably missing and is presumed dead, until she shows up very much alive at her own memorial service a few weeks later.
The Margot who reappears is clearly different from who she was pre-disappearance. Nevertheless, Sam sees his wife's return as an opportunity to try again and rectify past issues within their relationship.

Discussing the message behind her next film, Horvát said in a statement that My Notes On Mars explores the "labyrinthine human psyche" and "the ever-changing faces of love".
"To start over a marriage, to rediscover the other, to fall in love again — our story is about the grueling realisation of this impossible desire," she says.
The director, best known for her 2020 film Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time, shared her delight at working with Scott and Lee on the project.
"[I'm] particularly drawn to characters who dare to make surprising, unconventional choices in both their private and professional lives," she says, adding: "I feel that this is true for Greta and Andrew as well.
"It is an incredible honour for me that I can accompany them on the journey of creating Margot and Sam Fogel."
In addition to her directing duties, Horvát has written the screenplay for My Notes On Mars, which she will produce with Dóra Csernátony through their production company Poste Restante.
