Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2 has been given an exciting filming update.

The upcoming sequel to Adam Sandler's 1996 cult comedy, which was announced earlier this year, is set to begin filming in just a couple of weeks.

The news was confirmed by Sandler himself during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, where the actor told host Jimmy Fallon: "We’re going to do Happy Gilmore. This is happening. We’re getting ready to shoot it in New Jersey. We start in a couple weeks. It’s good."

He continued: "We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it."

The film is set to include real professional golfers in its cast and feature cameos from stars such as NFL player Travis Kelce.

Discussing Kelce's appearance in the sequel, Sandler said: "Travis has… he mentioned [having a cameo], so we have a nice something for Travis.

"He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell."

The original movie stars Sandler as the titular character, a bad-tempered, failed hockey player who discovers he has a talent for golf and enters a tournament to help save his grandmother's house.

Sandler will, of course reprise the role for Happy Gilmore 2, while Christopher McDonald is also expected to return as Gilmore's golfing rival Shooter McGavin.

McDonald previously teased that a sequel was in the works, saying back in March: "I saw Adam about two weeks ago and he says to me, 'McDonald, you’re gonna love this.' I said, 'What?' He says, 'How about that?' and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2."

Happy Gilmore 2 will stream on Netflix, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
