The Thursday Murder Club movie is officially underway and Richard Osman is just as excited as you are.

The long-awaited movie adaptation of the bestselling series started filming last Thursday (June 27). We've had to wait until today (July 2) to get our first set photo though, courtesy of Osman himself.

Unfortunately, it's not a first look at any of the cast in action, but he did share a photo of Helen Mirren's set chair, so that's something.

"Oh it's HAPPENING," Osman wrote in the post shared on his Twitter account. We can only hope this is the first of many teases from the set as filming continues from now until September.

The Thursday Murder Club will see Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, Pierce Brosnan and Sir Ben Kingsley making up the titular crime-solving group as former spy Elizabeth, former nurse Joyce, trades union official Ron and psychiatrist Ibrahim, respectively.

They're joined by an exciting supporting cast including David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, Jonathan Pryce, Danny Mays and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.

We know Ackie is playing police officer Donna and Pryce is playing Elizabeth's husband Stephen, but the other roles are being kept under wraps.

Now that filming is underway, we might not have to wait long to find out other cast confirmations or who everybody is playing.

We're still waiting for a confirmed release date for the movie, but we do know that The Thursday Murder Club will be released by Netflix.

"I'm so proud of this book, so it is a dream to see The Thursday Murder Club in such incredible hands. From Chris Columbus, to Amblin to Netflix, there are geniuses everywhere I look. And what a cast. I'm pinching myself," Osman said.

Osman has also confirmed that it will get a cinema release too. Replying to a fan asking if they can see it without Netflix, Osman said: "It'll be in cinemas too."

The Thursday Murder Club does not yet have a confirmed release date.
