Andy Serkis has given Batman fans a timeline for when to expect Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader back on the big screen.

The hotly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves' 2022 The Batman should arrive in cinemas not before mid-2026 according to Serkis, who plays Bruce Wayne's trusted butler and confidant in this new iteration of the DC saga.

Speaking at an event at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024, the Lord of the Rings star joked: "Well, there is a huge arc which you've got – nah, I'm not giving away anything" before revealing production is likely to start in early 2025.

"Basically, I know nothing about the movie other than that I've just found out that we're probably likely to be starting filming early next year," the actor explained (via Popverse). "Therefore, if you do the math, it'll be a year and a half after that."

It seems fans are in for a real treat as Serkis celebrated Reeves' filmmaking and writing skills, promising "another brilliant script".

"I know that Matt [Reeves] is working really hard on the script," Serkis said.

"Matt Reeves being Matt Reeves, the extraordinary filmmaker that he is, I can only assume that it's going to be another brilliant script, because I thought what he did with that first film was pretty amazing."

For his part, Serkis sounded eager to share the screen with Pattinson again as he said: "I loved working with Rob Pattinson, and I really look forward to playing Alfred once more."

Alongside the prospective release of The Batman 2, the actor is also stepping behind the camera for a Lord of the Rings movie set to hit cinemas that same year.

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will follow the creature played by Serkis, who also directs and executive produces. Set to "explore storylines yet to be told", the movie will be produced by original trilogy filmmaker Peter Jackson with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

The Batman 2 doesn't have a release date yet. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be released in 2026.
