Prey 2 has been given a huge update, as a separate new Predator movie eyes Elle Fanning to star.

It was previously confirmed that the hit 2022 prequel movie Prey would be getting a follow-up, with Deadline now reporting that the sequel is in early development and will return to Prey's setting.

Prey star Amber Midthunder will also potentially return – if confirmed, this would mark the first time that a character from a previous Predator movie has reprised their role in a separate instalment.

The site has also revealed that a separate Predator movie titled Badlands, which comes from Prey director Dan Trachtenberg, has lined up The Great's Elle Fanning to star.

While a deal has yet to be officially confirmed, Fanning reportedly met with Trachtenberg as she's a big fan of the franchise, with the actor jumping on board after their meeting.

Plot details for Badlands remain under wraps for now, though we do know that Trachtenberg co-wrote the script with Patrick Aison.

If a deal with Fanning is concluded, it's hoped that filming could start before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, last year Midthunder expressed an interest in doing a follow-up to Prey following the movie's critical success.

"I don't have a date for you," the star told Variety. "This is not an announcement but I'm not saying it's not. We talk all the time about all kinds of things and that was probably one.

"I'm ready. I loved that experience. I love that movie. I would be happy to, you know, see where else we can take it."

Prey is streaming on Disney+, where you can also watch Predator, Predator 2, and Predators.
