What to Read Next
So we're here with the definitive guide to whether The Strangers: Chapter 1 has any post-credits scenes.
Does The Strangers: Chapter 1 have a post-credits scene?
We can confirm that The Strangers: Chapter 1 has one post-credits scene to stick around for, so don't leave when the credits start.
The scene comes shortly into the credits, and there's nothing after the credits finish. It's a continuation of the ending and while it doesn't have much to tease Chapter 2, it does leave you with a final chill.
If that's all you want to know, then look away now, as we're about to reveal what happened in the scene if you missed it.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 credits scene explained
While The Strangers: Chapter 1 plays out mostly like the original 2008 movie, it goes a bit further in its ending.
After Ryan is fatally stabbed, Maya is also stabbed – but she doesn't die. We hear police sirens in the distance, spooking The Strangers and forcing them to leave. Maya is then seen in hospital, recovering from her injury.
At the end of The Strangers (2008), we also saw that Kristen wasn't killed in the final moment of the movie – it's just that in the reboot, this reveal isn't just a final shock, but a set-up for the next two movies.
The credit scene sees Maya wake up in hospital and, as she sits up in her bed, we see that Scarecrow has been waiting by her side the whole time. Creepy.
Maya will be back in The Strangers: Chapter 2, so the credit scene is not a hint that she's killed straight away. As for how she gets out of that situation, we'll have to wait until the sequel comes out in cinemas.
"I like to look at these three bodies of work – especially as I play this character – as a character study on if you push a person past their breaking point, who are they left with at the end of the day," Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch explained of the trilogy.
"That's the journey of Maya through the three films. The Strangers continue to absolutely ruin this girl's life."
The Strangers: Chapter 1 is out now in cinemas.
