Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge has shared her excitement at being reunited with Fiona Shaw in their new movie, IF.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, the pair discussed what it was like to be working together again.

"I've been waiting for this day," said Waller-Bridge, who created and played the lead role in Fleabag.

Shaw played a counsellor in the second season of the show. Despite her limited appearance, the show definitely made an impression on her, and vice versa.

"Fleabag was just two and a half minutes of my life, and possibly the most important two and a half minutes of my life.

"To just be a follicle on the head of her brilliant brain, it was the honour of my life! She sort of produced a generation of actors, she just produced them!" said Shaw, referencing Waller-Bridge's writing credits for the show.

"I'm in the first scene in Fleabag, and it's the best scene I've ever seen on television," she added.

Meanwhile, Waller-Bridge was equally complimentary about her co-star's performances, claiming: "She's the key to Fleabag, and she's the key to this film too. If you really want something to fly, you cast Fiona Shaw."

Though they "loved" their reunion, the actors weren't technically together whilst working on their new movie, as Shaw revealed: "We weren't entirely reunited, we weren't in the same room, but in one way artistically reunited. Which is possibly all that matters."

Speaking about giving life to her IF character, Waller-Bridge explained: "There's so much joy during this kind of performance, because they create… It's kind of the chicken and egg.

"You see an image, and you read the script, and then you come in and start playing and they're sort of recording your face and your movements in case you do anything that affects and influences the character, and that comes back next time… So it's a very organic process of collaboration."

IF is released in cinemas on May 17, with advance screenings on May 11 and 12.
