Here's what critics have been saying.
The AV Club
"Starring one of the best actresses of her generation delivering one of her finest performances, and filled with a sincere sense of passion that will have eager audiences humming in their seats, it’s one of the best romantic comedies we’ve seen in quite a while."
SlashFilm
"The Idea of You is here to remind us that [rom-coms] can be so much more than that. At their best, they can be illuminating experiences that shed meaningful light on the human condition. Thanks in no small part to a stellar performance by Anne Hathaway and a star-making turn for Nicholas Galitzine, this is the genre at its best."
Slant Magazine
"With apologies to Anyone But You’s Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, make The Idea of You the best argument that there’s life yet left in the romcom genre."
But Why Tho?
"A stellar rom-com that challenges what audiences think about what 'coming of age' can mean, The Idea of You shows why we need more romantic comedies in every way."
The Hollywood Reporter
"The Idea of You functions best as a carefree treat – a feel-good romantic comedy that delivers some laughs and bursts with the magnetism of its lead. That it manages to wiggle in some lessons about self-discovery is merely a bonus."
Variety
"This is Hathaway’s movie, and she owns it: independent, desirable and never, ever desperate."
The Idea of You premieres on Prime Video on May 2.
