Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson’s new movie Mercy has confirmed a release date.

Earlier this month it was announced that the pair are to star in the new sci-fi action thriller, with the movie due to begin filming this spring.

Now The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Mercy will be released in US cinemas on August 15, 2025 – with a global release also expected at some point.

Directed by Timur Bejmambetov (Wanted) and written by Marco van Belle (Arthur & Merlin), the film is set in the near future and will see Guardians of the Galaxy star Pratt play a detective.

According to the film's synopsis, Pratt’s currently unnamed character "finds himself accused of a violent crime and having to prove his innocence in a society where capital crime is on the rise".

It has not yet been revealed who Ferguson will play in Mercy, as the film is still in the early stages of production, but it is likely that she will have a key role in the action.

Ferguson is currently starring in sequel Dune: Part Two, where she is reprising her role as Lady Jessica, alongside the likes of Timotheé Chalamet, Zendaya and Austin Butler.

There is a tenuous connection between Mercy’s two stars, as Ferguson’s Dune co-star Dave Bautista recently revealed on The Tonight Show that Pratt convinced him to adopt a dog.

Pratt was working with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, who needed help rehoming a puppy, so he texted Bautista to ask if he was interested.

"[Pratt] said, ‘I know that you’re a fan of this breed, and my co-star is trying to adopt her out,’" Bautista explained. "And I said, ‘Oh, sorry, man. You know, I’ve already got three.’ And I just [kept] looking at [the dog’s] picture and I was just… I just fell in love with her.

"I sound super Hollywood. It sounds weird to be when I say, ‘Chris Pratt hit me up and I got my dog, you know, from Millie Bobby Brown.’"

Mercy will be released in US cinemas on August 15, 2025.
