“Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton to star in Pedro Almodóvar's new film, The Room Next Door,” read a post on Instagram. “The actresses put themselves at the orders of [the] director in a drama between mother and daughter that will be shot in spring in New York and Madrid.”

The synopsis from production and distributing company Pathé says The Room Next Door follows “an imperfect mother and daughter, separated by a huge misunderstanding. At the heart of this conflict, Ingrid (Moore), a friend of Martha (Swinton), the mother, becomes a witness to the pain and bitterness of each of them.

“The film addresses the boundless cruelty of wars and highlights the two writers' singular approaches to portraying reality. It explores the themes of death, friendship, and sexual pleasure, which are considered essential allies in the fight against horror.”
