The Super Mario Bros Movie's 'Peaches' song, performed by Jack Black in character as Bowser, has missed out on an Oscar.

The shortlist for Original Song has been released (via Deadline), revealing which 15 songs from the last year's movies will be battling it out to be nominated for the glory.

Barbie is well represented on the list, with Dua Lipa's 'Dance the Night Away', Billie Eilsh's 'What Was I Made For?' and Ryan Gosling's 'I'm Just Ken' all up for the prize.

The film The Color Purple has two entries on the list, while films like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Asteroid City have one entry each.

But 'Peaches', which is a fun song Jack Black sings on the piano and has a very amusing music video, is one of the notable exclusions.

There's also nothing from Wonka, which has several songs in it, and Disney's latest animated movie musical Wish has also failed to have any songs to make the list.

In fact, the House of Mouse is only represented once, by 'The Fire Inside', written by Diane Warren for Hulu movie Flamin' Hot.

A selection of songs from this shortlist will go on to be officially nominated for the award, and only one of them will triumph on the night to be named Best Original Song for this year.

The 2024 Oscars, also known as the 96th Academy Awards, will be held on March 10. Jimmy Kimmel will host, while US viewers can watch on ABC. Sky aired the ceremony in the UK last year.
