Super Mario Bros Movie fans may have a long wait ahead as a possible sequel hasn't been officially greenlit yet.

Jack Black, who voiced villain Bowser in the film released in April, has shared an update, saying that there haven't been official sequel talks yet.

"It has been radio silence," Black told Variety on their Awards Circuit Podcast.

"The only chatter has been coming from me, and I don't even know if I'm allowed to chatter. I've been chomping at the bit to get back to business."

However, Black had his very own pitch for a follow-up story about Nintendo's beloved plumber, focusing on his character Bowser.

"Bowser's Revenge," he pitched, adding: "I think it should be a full musical, like what Todd Phillips is supposedly doing with Joker 2."

Speaking of music, the School of Rock star may be up for a nomination at the upcoming Oscars for his power ballad 'Peaches', included in the Super Mario soundtrack.

"I don't like to mix my music and movies, unless they told me at the beginning," Black explained.

"I'm real protective of the Tenacious D side of my career. They sent me a 30-second nugget of an idea, and it was hilarious. So I fleshed it out, added some lyrics and melody, and they loved it. And by God, they put it in the film. I couldn't believe they did."

Super Mario star Chris Pratt, who lends his voice to the titular character, previously discussed the film's record-breaking success, which may lead to a new Mario adventure.

"[It's] really shocking to me how successful that movie's been," he said in an interview with ET in June.

"I mean, I expected that people would love it the way I was excited about it, but it's truly multigenerational around the world. People love it. They love Mario... It's a really fun, funny, cute, heartwarming movie and, God, I can't believe I'm part of it."
