Before the two become inseparable, however, Oliver makes friends with another Oxford academic, Michael Gavey, before ditching him for the cooler group of students.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Mitchell discussed the character of Michael, and revealed the one hidden detail about him.

"I never went to drama school so every job I do is an opportunity for me to try something different," he explained.

Mitchell then shared the essential prop that ended up on the cutting room floor: "You don't see it in the scenes, but by my legs there was a used Tesco carrier bag full of algebra and Crunchy bars, and even off set I'd take it with me."

"I wanted to be true to the character, and I wanted you to imagine that you could see this character outside of the scenes he's in, and maybe even be fascinated by what they might be," he added.

The film, which also stars Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant and Alison Oliver, will be available to watch on Prime Video for all subscribers from Friday, December 22.

This means that viewers at home will be able to watch the film's shocking scenes in all of their glory, including Oliver's involvement with a freshly covered up grave.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Keoghan revealed that the scene was improvised.

"It was required though, I wanted to see where it went," he explained. "It's the next level up in obsession.

"I just wanted to see... you know, an action happened, what I'd do as Oliver. It was interesting to discover that."
