Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell has said he "almost died" while filming a nude scene for his new rom-com Anyone But You.

Powell stars opposite Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney in the Will Gluck-directed film, with the pair playing two arch-nemeses who pretend to be a couple to keep up appearances while attending a mutual friend's wedding in Australia.

In one risky scene, Powell's character bares all by stripping off at the edge of a cliff as his co-star removes a large spider from inside his shorts.

Speaking about the moment at the film’s New York premiere, the actor told Variety: "Taking your clothes off on the side of a cliff in a hurry is not safe either.

"Nobody talks about that safety issue on set, where I almost died falling off a cliff taking my pants off too fast. But it’s a really fun scene, so it was all worth it."

But the scene wasn't only risky for Powell, as Sweeney said she was actually bitten by the spider.

"There’s the spider itself, which actually bit me, and that was a whole thing," she recalled. "And then we have the part of Glen bending over and me checking to see if there are more spiders."

Anyone But You also stars Barbie's Alexandra Shipp, Star Trek: Picard's Michelle Hurd, The Wilds' Rachel Griffiths, Secret Invasion's Dermot Mulroney, and Bryan Brown.

Anyone But You will be released in UK on December 26, while in the US it will arrive on December 22.
