The Marvels star Iman Vellani has revealed that she tried to get Samuel L Jackson to swear at her on the set of the new movie.
The Kamala Khan actress shared a hilarious anecdote in a recent late night interview, explaining that she had been attempting to get the Nick Fury actor – who is known for many sweary on-screen appearances – to use some choice words with her for a while.
"He's a very generous scene partner, very encouraging scene partner," she told Late Night with Seth Meyers. "I was doing [a] fight scene with him, actually, and I wanted to try something new. So I high-fived him at the end of the scene – creative choices, people!

"And then we cut, and Sam goes, 'They won't use that take. Do you know why they won't use that take?' And I was like [shakes head]."
Vellani recalled Jackson explaining that her hand was covering her face, and after she apologised her co-star suggested she should elbow him.

"So we get to the end of the scene, and I was so scared of touching Sam Jackson," the actress continued. "I lightly elbowed him, and then we cut, he's like, 'No, no, no, no! Elbow me!' I was like, 'OK, I'm sorry!'"

The star admitted that she "fully chickened out" on the next take as she couldn’t "figure out the manoeuvring of an elbow", which led to a more full-on reaction from Jackson.
"He grabs my arm, and turns to me, and is like, 'Elbow me, motherf**ker!'"
However, Vellani then clarified that the last word wasn’t actually used, joking: "For the record, he didn’t actually swear at me, that's just how I heard it.

"I was trying to get him to swear at me for so long… nothing but hugs!"
Host Meyers quipped that he was "so glad you gave us the multiverse version of Sam Jackson", with the actress adding that "it was a dream" for her.
The Marvels, which unites Vellani's Khan with Brie Larson's Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris's Monica Rambeau, made its debut in cinemas last weekend, though set an unwanted record for the MCU's lowest-ever opening with a gross of $46.1 million.
The Marvels is out now in cinemas. Captain Marvel is streaming on Disney+ and available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.
