Emily Blunt has revealed she's taking a break from acting this year to spend more time with her family.

The A Quiet Place star, who shares two daughters with her husband, the actor John Krasinski, spoke of her decision on an episode of iHeart's Table for Two podcast.

"This year, I'm not working. I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is nine, so we're in the last year of single digits," she explained.

"And I just feel [like] there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they're little."

She continued: "And it's, 'Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?' And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones."

Blunt's admission comes just days before the release of her latest movie, Christopher Nolan's biographical war drama Oppenheimer.

The Golden Globe award-winning actress portrays Kitty Oppenheimer, the wife of J Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy).

As well as Blunt and Murphy, the film also features an all-star supporting cast that includes Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr and Florence Pugh.

Blunt attended the London premiere of Oppenheimer yesterday (July 13), where she clarified her previous stance on taking time off from her work to prioritise family.

"Honestly that story got so, sort of , overblown," she told Deadline on the red carpet. "I'm just taking a little downtime. Not quitting Hollywood.

"I was just taking some months off to be with the kids."

After her stint on the red carpet, Blunt joined her fellow co-stars in leaving the premiere early, before the film screening. Director Christopher Nolan confirmed that the star-studded cast had walked out due to the looming actors' strike.

"I have to acknowledge the work of our incredible cast, led by Cillian Murphy, the list is enormous — Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek and so many more… You’ve seen them here earlier on the red carpet," Nolan said to those in attendance.

"Unfortunately, they are off to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by SAG, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of their union."

Oppenheimer, which is based on the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer, is set for release on July 21, 2023.
