Shazam 3 has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros and, right now, your guess is as good as ours as to whether it'll happen.

The sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, has the honour of being the first DC movie released since James Gunn and Peter Safran's new era of the DC Universe began. However, it's that new era that has us sceptical as to whether Shazam will return.

Gunn has said that the door is open for any current DC star to continue in their roles (well, except for Henry Cavill), and director David F Sandberg explained that the sequel's performance will define whether we see the superhero again.

What to Read Next

"What I've been told is that there's nothing in the Shazam films that contradict the future plans for DC. So the possibility for more Shazam is there and if that's what you want your best bet is to go see the film," he replied to a fan on Twitter.

So with that in mind, here's everything you need to know about a potential Shazam 3. (Warning – Shazam! Fury of the Gods spoilers follow.)

Shazam 3 potential release date: When could we see Shazam 3?

As mentioned above, Shazam 3 has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros. and DC, so we don't currently have an official release date.

Gunn and Safran confirmed the first part of their new era in January 2023 and a third Shazam! movie was nowhere to be seen. That doesn't mean it won't happen as part of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, though, as they didn't announce everything.

It's unclear which movie will officially start the new era (Superman: Legacy is the only one with a release date of July 11, 2025), but we doubt a Shazam! threequel will appear before that happens.

So you're looking at a release in 2025 at the very earliest – and probably a lot later – if Shazam 3 even happens.

Shazam 3 cast: Who's coming back for Shazam 3?

Since Shazam 3 hasn't been confirmed, we've had no official cast confirmations, but we can make some solid guesses.

We imagine all of the Shazam Family will be back, so that's:

• Zachary Levi and Asher Angel as Shazam / Billy Batson
• Adam Brody and Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman
• Ross Butler and Ian Chen as Eugene Choi
• Meagan Good and Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley
• Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield
• DJ Cotrona and Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña

We'd hope that means Marta Milans and Cooper Andrews will return as their foster parents Rosa and Victor Vásquez. Following the events of the sequel, Rachel Zegler could reprise her role as Anthea, who ended up getting close with Freddy.

Anthea's sisters Kalypso (Lucy Liu) and Hespera (Helen Mirren) didn't fare as well and both died by the end of the movie.

Then again, Djimon Hounsou's Wizard came back from the dead for the sequel so there might be a way for the Daughters of Atlas to return. Expect Hounsou back as the Wizard too if we get a third movie.

The sequel also featured surprise DC cameos from Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt and Steve Agee as John Economos, so we could see more DC crossovers if Shazam returns given that he's now part of the Justice Society.

Shazam 3 plot: How does Shazam 2's ending set up a third movie?

In truth, there's not really much in the sequel that sets up Shazam 3, potentially because of the change at DC behind-the-scenes.

The main movie is fairly self-contained, but the credit scenes do look to the future. First, we see Shazam recruited into the Justice Society, who made their DC debut in Black Adam, although he's not that impressed to not be part of the Justice League.

In the post-credit scene, Mark Strong returns as Dr Thaddeus Sivana, still in his cell following events of the first movie. Mister Mind pops up again and promises that his plan is happening, it just takes some time.

It's most likely just a gag at the expense of the sequel set-up in the first movie, but we'd be down for a Shazam Family vs Mister Mind threequel.

Shazam 3 trailer: Any Shazam 3 footage yet?

Unfortunately, given it hasn't been confirmed or started filming, we don't have anything to show you right now for Shazam 3. Sorry about that.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is out now in cinemas. Shazam! is available to rent or buy from Prime Video, iTunes and more.
