Barbie star Alexandra Shipp has joined Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell’s as yet untitled new R-rated romantic comedy.
According to Deadline, the script for this film is still largely being kept under wraps, but it is being directed by Will Gluck (of Easy A fame) and based on a script by High School Musical: The Musical - The Series writer Ilana Wolpert, which Gluck is rewriting.
Shipp has previously starred in the X-Men franchise as Storm and opposite Andrew Garfield in the Oscar nominated tick, tick…BOOM! As for Shipp’s role in Barbie, not much is known about it (or the film in general).

The teaser trailer for Barbie was released in December, but even that did not give us much idea as to what we can expect from the mind of Greta Gerwig – other than lots of neon pink.
Barbie does, however, boast an impressive roster of cast members with Margot Robbie as the titular doll and Ryan Gosling joining her as Ken. Also in the cast are Elf actor Will Ferrell, Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings' Simu Liu, Insecure's Issa Rae, Superstore's America Ferrera and Arrested Development's Michael Cera, amongst many others.

Gerwig is in the director’s chair and she has also co-written the script with her real life partner, Noah Baumbach.
Back in July 2021, Margot Robbie said of the film: "People generally hear 'Barbie' and think, 'I know what that movie is going to be,' and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they're like, 'Oh, well, maybe I don't...'. Our goal is to be like, 'Whatever you're thinking, we're going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn't know you wanted'."
A release date for the Sydney Sweeney-Glen Powell romcom has not been revealed. Barbie is scheduled to release in cinemas on July 21, 2023.
