Ben Whishaw's new movie Passages had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last week, and it's landed a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score from all the critics who have reviewed it so far.

Set in contemporary Paris, Passages follows German filmmaker Tomas (Franz Rogowski) as he embarks on a torrid love affair with a young woman named Agathe (Adèle Exarchopoulos).

Tomas is excited to experience the novelty of being with a woman despite his marriage to Martin (Whishaw), but when Martin starts his own affair, Tomas turns his attention back to his husband.

Variety

"Sachs excels at investigating thorny, uncomfortable situations, and he treats all three characters fairly here, which allows audiences to decide which one they identify with. It should be said: Despite superficial similarities to the hit play Cock, the movie is not a serious portrait of bisexuality.

"However, its depiction of a difficult and self-absorbed artist chimes with recent criticisms of industry misbehavior – how power and celebrity bring a kind of entitlement – which gives the movie added cachet."

Indie Wire

"A signature new drama from a director whose best work (Keep the Lights On, Love Is Strange) is at once both generously tender in its brutality and unsparingly brutal in its tenderness, the raw and resonant Passages is the kind of f**k around and find out love triangle that rings true because we aspire to its sexier moments but see ourselves in its most selfish ones."

Screen Daily

"The three leads are beautifully matched, although Exarchopoulos’s Agathe – despite her intense, multi-layered performance – doesn’t emerge in as much focus as the two men.

"Whishaw’s Martin is an expertly nuanced depiction, exuding philosophical fatigue and cautiously held-in resentment. And Rogowski – currently on a roll following German titles Undine and Great Freedom – grabs the limelight to variously horrifying and hilarious effect as an impetuous narcissist with a dangerous lack of self-knowledge."
