Luther is coming back to our screens and we now have the confirmed release date for the eagerly-anticipated Luther: The Fallen Sun.
The new movie brings back Idris Elba's troubled detective John Luther for the first time since 2019 when the final series aired on BBC One. As ever, a gruesome serial killer is terrorising London, but there's one big change: Luther is in prison.
As we saw at the end of the TV series, Luther was banged up for his crimes. However, haunted by the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, he decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.
Luther: The Fallen Sun will be released in cinemas on February 24 and on Netflix on March 10.
Luther: The Fallen Sun will also bring back Dermot Crowley as Luther's former boss DSU Martin Schenk, while newcomers include Cynthia Erivo, Lauryn Ajufo and Andy Serkis as Luther's latest adversary David Robey.
"When I first read the script, I almost wanted to throw it in the bin and have a shower," Serkis said of his darkest role yet.

"I don't think I've come across anything quite as dark for a long time. And I thought, 'In fact, do I really actually at this point in the world and time and my life, want to go down this particular rabbit hole of something that's so hard to fathom in humanity?'"
Sounds pretty standard for a Luther villain, to be honest.
The movie is actually changing things up for Luther though as he's not just staying in London for the new case. Elba has promised that it will still be the show we know and love though despite the change in scenery.
"We do amplify the action and do amplify the stakes. But [series 3’s] man-under-the-bed moment? That don't cost you much money. Those moments are still intact," he teased.
