Empire's Terrence Howard is retiring from acting.

The actor, best known for playing Lucious Lyon in Empire and Rhodey in the first Iron Man movie, has told Entertainment Tonight that he is stepping away due to feeling like he's giving everything he can.

"I asked Sidney Poitier 10 years ago does he want to do any more work, and he said, 'Why would I spend my last 10 years doing an impersonation of myself?' And that's what I've gotten to. I've gotten to the point where now I've given the very best that I have as an actor.

"Now I'm enjoying watching other new talent come around, and I don't want to do an impersonation of myself.

As he mentioned, he previously stated his intention to retire back in 2019 once Empire wrapped up, but he has had a few projects come out since then. He seems like he's pretty serious about it this time, especially as The Best Man: The Final Chapters is him reprising his breakout role from 1999.

An Empire spin-off starring Taraji P Henson's Cookie was originally planned, but sadly looks like it isn't happening anymore.
