The remake of the 1987 classic is directed by David Bruckner and sees Sense8 star Jamie Clayton take on the role of the iconic villain the Priest, also known as Pinhead, while Odessa A'Zion plays the film's protagonist Riley McKendry.

According to the synopsis, the film follows "a young woman struggling with addiction who comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension."

The franchise is based on Clive Barker's 1986 novel The Hellbound Heart. Barker, who served as a producer, promised fans it would "pay homage to what the first film created."

"Having seen some of the designs from David Bruckner's new Hellraiser film, they pay homage to what the first film created, but then take it to places it's never been before," he said.

"This is a Hellraiser on a scale that I simply didn't expect."

He added: "David and his team are steeped in the story's mythology, but what excites me is their desire to honour the original even as they revolutionise it for a new generation."

Hellraiser streams on Hulu in the US and on Prime Video, iTunes and Microsoft Store Movies in the UK.
