Prey for the Devil, the supernatural horror film that follows the story of a nun who trains to become a female exorcist, has critics and audiences divided as first reviews have essentially crucified this film.
As of the time of writing this article, the film has a 23% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audience score sits at a steady 72%.
The film stars Salvation's Jacqueline Byers and 13 Reasons Why's Christian Navarro as Sister Ann and Father Dante respectively as they try to save a girl by performing an exorcism. Arrow's Colin Salmon and Designated Survivor's Virginia Madsen also star.

The critics' reviews are still pouring in but based on the ones that have already come out, it is not looking good for this film.
“It never manages to pull together a narrative cohesive or scary enough to rise above a patchwork of familiar possession horror tropes,” says Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting.
While Collider’s Marco Vito Oddo said: “More often than not, we can ignore the message if we’d like and just enjoy a scary movie. Prey for the Devil, however, seems to have been developed as deliberate propaganda.”
Carla Hay of Culture Mix said: “Prey for the Devil is yet another half-baked horror movie with a scattered plot, made worse by a very weak ending. If 1973's The Exorcist is the gold standard for exorcism horror movies, then Prey for the Devil is like a wooden, counterfeit coin.”

However, not all critics' reviews were bad, as Variety’s Dennis Harvey said: “Even if it falls short of being particularly memorable or scary, this is a decently entertaining possession potboiler.”
Audiences seem to agree as one user wrote: “A different take on the concept. Excellent character development and focus on story as opposed to CGI or jump scares.”
While another said: “Excellent themes about trauma, mindfulness, and healing. Good FX, decent script, interesting twist.”
