Production has started on The Nun 2, the next instalment in The Conjuring franchise.
The sequel to the 2018 supernatural horror film, The Nun, will see American Horror Story star Taissa Farmiga return as Sister Irene, where she is called to investigate a new case.
Set four years after the original, The Nun 2 sees Sister Irene attempt to uncover the truth behind a priest’s murder in France, as she faces a demon called Valak.

Now, writer and producer James Wan has confirmed that the team have started filming the sequel, by posting a photo of one of the roll cards on set to his Instagram.

He captioned the behind-the-scenes picture: "Photography has commenced on THE NUN 2 in France! With @michaelchaves performing the exorcism (directing) on this one. #theconjuringuniverse #theconjuring #thenun."
Wan also tagged the main cast including the recent addition, Storm Reid, who has previously appeared in Euphoria and The Suicide Squad.
Reid joins Farmiga, as well as Bonnie Aarons who will reprise her role as Valak, the Nun, and it seems that Jonas Bloquet may also return as Maurice "Frenchie" Theriault as he was included in the Instagram post.

Farmiga is not the only member of her family to appear in one of the nine movies within The Conjuring universe.
Her sister, Hawkeye and The Orphan star Vera Farmiga, has appeared as paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren in four of The Conjuring movies to date, since the original back in 2013.
However, their characters are not related in anyway.

Alongside her roles as Violet Harman and Zoe Benson in different series of American Horror Story, Taissa Farmiga has been filming the second season of The Gilded Age.
The 1880s New York drama is created by Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes and stars Cynthia Nixon, Christine Baranski, Carrie Coon and Louisa Jacobson.
The Nun 2 will be released in cinemas in the US on September 8, 2023. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
