Disney has announced the release date for Barbarian, a new horror-thriller starring It's Bill Skarsgård and from the producers of It, The Ring and The Grudge.

As expected, the film will be releasing in October, but if you want to get spooky all month, you'll need to look elsewhere, as we're only getting it just a few days before Halloween, on October 28.

The film follows a woman who travels to Detroit, but finds that her Airbnb is already booked, with a strange man staying there. Things soon get horrifying, as it turns out that the strange man might actually be the least of her worries.

As well as Skarsgård, the film also stars Murdered by My Boyfriend's Georgina Campbell, Dodgeball's Justin Long and Still Alice's Kate Bosworth, among others.

In the US, the film has debuted top of the box office. It also has a really solid score of 78 on Metacritic, which averages out the scores professional reviewers have given it.

What to Read Next

Without going into spoilers, a lot of the reviews say that the film sets up a lot of clichéd elements, but moves beyond them to become something that's more memorable – and more terrifying. Reactions on social media have also been very positive, comparing it to the early works of Scream's Wes Craven.

Since the film is being released by 20th Century Studios, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company, it'll end up on Disney+ for those of you who prefer to watch your horror films in the comfort of your own home.

Barbarian will be released in UK cinemas on October 28, and is out now in the US.
