Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon has spoken out about making a threequel to the hit girl-power comedy.
Fans of Witherspoon's iconic Elle Woods have been eagerly awaiting details of the third instalment, ever since the actress confirmed she was in talks for the movie in 2018.
Little is known about Legally Blonde 3 since it's been delayed indefinitely, but Witherspoon's now revealed a 2022 blockbuster action movie has given her some fresh inspiration for the film.

"I'm still hoping that Legally Blonde 3 is gonna come together in the right way," she told USA Today. "It's just like Top Gun. They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgia piece they incorporated in it."
Detailing further how the Tom Cruise film influenced her, Witherspoon said: "Definitely that gave us a lot of inspiration about what we would want to do with Elle Woods and make sure that we had all those same touchstones that mattered to people [back] then.

"I feel like these characters are my friends, so I safeguard them. I would never make the subpar, mediocre version of their story."

In 2020, fans were treated to some updates on the potential third Legally Blonde film when it was confirmed The Office's Mindy Kaling and Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Dan Goor had signed on to write the screenplay.
Later that year, MGM took to Twitter to announce a May 2022 release date for the film, which sadly never came to fruition.
The first two films came out in quick succession with the original becoming a surprise box-office success in 2001 and its sequel following on in 2003.
However, it seems fans will have to continue to be patient when it comes to seeing a third cinema outing for Harvard Law's glamourous graduate, Elle Woods.
