Shazam! Fury of the Gods fans shouldn't lose hope for a Superman cameo just yet.

In the 2019 original, where Zachary Levi's muscly man-child was let loose in the Worlds of DC, Henry Cavill's Kryptonian did in fact turn up for a brief moment, but not in the intended way.

So, while attending this week's Comic-Con on the Warner Bros panel, Levi was posed the inevitable question: 'Will Cavill reprise Superman for the Shazam! sequel?'.

"I can neither confirm nor deny allegations such as these. These are not questions you're allowed to ask me on the stage right now. So no," the actor responded, before offering a wink to the fan who asked him.

Elsewhere on the panel, Levi (who'll voice Rocky in Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget) discussed what will need to happen for a third Shazam! movie to be made.

"If you guys go and see [Fury of the Gods] and you like it, then there's a good chance I think that the bosses will want to make another one. I would hope so. I love it. It's so much fun to do these movies."

This December's sequel will be stalked by the evil Kalypso (Lucy Liu) and Hespera (Helen Mirren), two powerful daughters of Atlas.

So despite a teaser post-credits scene in the first Shazam!, where Mark Strong's Dr Sivani is recruited by megalomaniac caterpillar Mister Mind, don't expect either one to show up this time.

"You're not going to see me in the sequel," Strong previously revealed. "Finally, I'm finally allowed to say it. I've had to sort of bite my tongue for so long."

Shazam! Fury of the Gods flies into cinemas on December 21.
