Thor: Love and Thunder is only a couple of weeks away and we now have the first reactions to the new MCU movie.

Following its world premiere last night (June 23) in the US, those lucky few to have seen Thor's latest big-screen adventure have taken to social media to share their immediate thoughts.

While some didn't think the film was quite as good as predecessor Thor: Ragnorok, it was still praised as a fun adventure with plenty of laughs.

The visual affects also received high praise from critics, as did Natalie Portman's long-awaited return, and Christian Bale's villainous turn.

Thor: Love and Thunder sees Thor (Chris Hemsworth) head out on a journey of self-discovery, but his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer called Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) and the surprise return of his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

Jane is now The Mighty Thor and wields Mjolnir to Thor's surprise, although we think he'll welcome the extra help. In order to stop Gorr before it's too late, Thor teams up with Jane, King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi) on a cosmic adventure like no other.

What to Read Next

The new movie is set after Thor teamed up with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and marks the first time that an MCU hero has had four solo adventures. (Sorry, Iron Man and Captain America.)

While Gorr might be the most formidable threat that Thor has ever faced across those four movies, Christian Bale has recently admitted that he didn't really know what the MCU was when he signed up.

"People would go, 'Oh, look at this! He's entered the MCU!' And I'd go, 'I've done what? I haven't entered shit, thank you very much,'" he recalled. "I'm like, 'The MCU?' I had to ask what that was."

Thor: Love and Thunder is released in UK cinemas on July 7 and in US cinemas on July 8.
