Dakota Johnson has compared her new role in movie Cha Cha Real Smooth to her turn in Netflix's The Lost Daughter.

The new Apple TV+ film sees the actress play Domino, a mother who strikes up a friendship alongside her autistic daughter (Vanessa Burghardt) with a recent college graduate (played by writer/director Cooper Raiff), who works as a Bar Mitzvah party host.

Last year, Johnson played the role of struggling mother Nina in The Lost Daughter, and in an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Johnson admitted that while the individuals "couldn't be more different", there are some similarities between the parts.

"It's very circumstantial," she noted. "I definitely go in whatever direction I'm meant to go in for that role. I think The Lost Daughter and Cha Cha, those people couldn't be more different.

"But they're also struggling with some of the same things... or maybe not struggling, just living with some of the same feelings and situations. Yeah, it was, it was an interesting year of pretending [to be a mother]."

The Lost Daughter follows the story of Leda Caruso (played by Olivia Colman in the present and Jessie Buckley in the past) as she reflects on her motherhood while on holiday in Greece after meeting Nina and her family.

As well as Cha Cha Real Smooth, Johnson has a role coming up in Netflix's adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion, which co-stars Henry Golding and recently unveiled a first trailer.

The actress will also play Madame Web in Sony's upcoming movie alongside Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and Ghostbusters: Afterlife's Celeste O'Connor.

Cha Cha Real Smooth is now available to watch on Apple TV+.
