Lady Gaga has confirmed her appearance as Harley Quinn in the second Joker movie.

Sharing a short teaser for the upcoming film to social media, we see silhouettes of the Joker and Harley Quinn dancing and the two looking intently at each other, with French music playing in the background

The snippet also confirms when we can expect to see the duo on the big screen, and we do have a while to wait – October 4, 2024 to be precise.

It was previously reported earlier this year by The Hollywood Reporter that the A Star is Born actress was in line to star as Harley, who was played by Margot Robbie in DC's Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad movies.

This leaves the possibility open that director Todd Phillips could reinvent Harley's character (as they did with the Joker in the first film), rather than stick to the source material from the DC comics or following the storyline established for Robbie's version of the character.

Gaga is not only an Oscar-nominated actress (and Best Original Song winner), but also a record-breaking musician – which would come in handy, as it's being reported that the sequel will be a musical.

Phillips announced the title of the sequel Joker: Folie à Deux on his Instagram earlier this year, along with a photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading the script.

The title also reveals a few more details about what to expect from the return of Arthur Fleck.

In French, "folie à deux" is a phrase that means "shared psychosis", and it's also defined as a "delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association".

Joker ends with Arthur locked up in Arkham State Hospital as he dances down the hall, his feet soaked in blood, hinting that he killed his doctor.

In the comics, Harley's origin story is as a psychiatrist who works at the Asylum. She and Joker fall into a twisted love, becoming partners in crime.

Joker became one of the most successful comic-book movies of all time following its release in 2019, and the first R-rated movie to ever make $1 billion worldwide.

Joker is available to buy on Blu-ray or streaming now.
