Charlize Theron has debuted a striking new hairstyle, revealing that she's doing it for an upcoming film.

The actress has been pictured out and about sporting a jet-black mullet, which has been making a comeback in the last few years. But Theron isn't getting her Billy Ray Cyrus on just because, but for The Old Guard 2.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about her new 'do, she said: "We needed something that felt like time had passed, so for that, you go with the ol' mullet."

Theron is reprising her role as Andy/Andromache of Scythia in the sequel, which is about to start filming in Rome.

Kill Bill's Uma Thurman and Crazy Rich Asians' Henry Golding have signed up to play currently undisclosed roles.

Theron recently appeared in two big superhero properties: playing a fictional version of Stormfront in The Boys season 3 and interdimensional traveller Clea in one of the credit sequences of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

What to Read Next

Although she hasn't seen her episode of The Boys – or its penis-themed standout scene – yet, she stated she enjoyed both her cameos and the "weird timing" of them both coming out at the same time.

"When Kevin [Feige] asked me to join the Doctor Strange world, I didn't even know when I was going to shoot that at the time. The [roles] were so far apart that I almost forgot," she said.

"But in full transparency, I shared it with them and they were so happy that people are interested in this world, whether it's satire or non-satire. I don’t know why both of these superheroes can't live in the same world."

The Old Guard is available to stream on Netflix. The sequel doesn't have a release window at the moment.
