Ghostbusters: Afterlife director and co-writer Jason Reitman has shared an exciting update with fans of the franchise.
On Ghostbusters Day yesterday (June 8), Reitman – son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, who died earlier this year – and co-screenwriter Gil Kenan have revealed the working title for the upcoming chapter.
Released in 2021 to mostly positive reviews, Afterlife is getting a direct sequel with a name inspired by the original films.

"The code name for the next movie is 'Firehouse,'" Reitman told The Hollywood Reporter. "The reference, of course, is the Ghostbusters' headquarters in the two '80s films."
Kenan then revealed the story for this upcoming movie has been ready for a while.

"We're writing as quickly as we can," the writer said. "We had the story before we finished Afterlife. And we have been crafting this with as much care as it took to build Afterlife into a worthy sequel."
The duo were also able to confirm the return of one of the OG Ghostbusters who's set to star in the sequel after popping up in Afterlife.

Ernie Hudson will once again play Winston Zeddemore, a role that he first played on 1984's Ghostbusters as part of the iconic squad completed by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and the late Harold Ramis.
"The character of Winston Zeddemore and Zeddemore Industries figures strongly into the future of Ghostbusters," Reitman said.
But Ghostbusters enthusiasts will have a whole lot of content to look forward to besides the sequel as a Netflix animated series, a video game and a Dark Horse comic series are also in the works. Just this once, we'll allow the streams to cross.
