Top Gun: Maverick star thought he was "going to die" in stunt

Following on from the first Top Gun film which came out 35 years ago, Top Gun: Maverick is the latest blockbuster people can't stop talking about.

Tom Cruise plays Lieutenant Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, a Navy aviator aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise who leads a new squad of fighter pilots. Miles Teller is also among the cast, and portrays Lieutenant Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw — the son of Maverick's old partner Goose.

In an interview with LADbible, Miles Teller revealed that he thought he was "going to die" during a Top Gun: Maverick stunt.

The 35-year-old actor revealed how he felt while filming an extreme stunt in an F-18 Hornet jet.

The stunt involved flying, plummeting headlong towards the ground, and spinning around in an F-18 Hornet jet. Teller recounted his experience of a max G pull-up: "You're heading down and at the last second you yank up."

The Bleed for This star said: "I think when there's that much adrenaline and a healthy bit of fear, I was able to hold [vomit] down. I guess that's a secret skill I have."

The actor admitted he's having mixed feelings about taking on any other stunt-heavy projects right away.

"I'm open to it, but also, I've got injured on some films," he admitted.

Cruise is famed for doing his own stunts on his action and adventure films but Teller doesn't want to go to the same great lengths as his co-star.

He stressed the importance of skilled stuntmen on film sets, saying he would rather not do all his own stunts, adding: "I don't want to pull [stuntmen] out of a job, you know?"

Although Teller may be reluctant to take to the sky again any time soon, his co-star Glen Powell, who plays expert aviator Jake 'Hangman' Seresin in the hit Top Gun follow-up, will portray a pilot in his next movie, Devotion as well.

Top Gun: Maverick is now playing in UK and US cinemas.
