Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña is a long way from the karate dojo in brand new images from the upcoming Worlds of DC movie Blue Beetle.

Xolo, who plays Miguel Diaz in Cobra Kai, has been photographed suited up on the set of Blue Beetle – and as you'd expect, his costume is looking very blue and very sleek.

Kind of like a beetle, funnily enough.

The shot, which doesn't catch the actor in his Blue Beetle helmet, will no doubt excite fans waiting for the movie, which also recently confirmed the casting of Susan Sarandon.

Xolo, who will become the first Latino lead in a superhero movie, recently opened up about his ground-breaking casting, admitting that it's one of the "only things" on his mind.

"I have so much pride in getting to be a part of this project with Angel [Manuel Soto, director], someone like him. I think it's so important, and I don't want to stand on the soapbox for too long but representation is so important," he said.

Adding that he plans to "hit the gym" for the role, Xolo also revealed how his experience on Cobra Kai will help his transformation.

"Luckily I have a background in martial arts and training in that kind of realm," he said, before caveating: "But this is a whole different game. This is like the big boys, so I'm ready to pack on a couple pounds and hit the gym."

Blue Beetle also stars Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans MC) as Carapax the Indestructible Man, George Lopez (The Tax Collector) as Uncle Rudy Reyes, Elpidia Carrillo (Cabinet of Curiosities) as Rocio Reyes, and Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories) as Milagros Reyes.

Blue Beetle flies into US cinemas on August 18, 2023.
